Self Care and Mamahood

I have had countless conversations with other mamas regarding the difficulties of balancing our motherhood and womanhood in general and there is a resounding message that mothers are putting themselves last. We get so caught up in the day to day, balancing motherhood, relationships, the household amongst so many other things.

Many mamas work outside of the home and many are working in home as stay at home moms and throw in the side hustles. We tend to lose sight of the things that we need! How important it is to have the time for ourselves to reflect inward and do things that genuinely fill our cup. Whether that be reading a book you enjoy peacefully, enjoying a glass of wine, getting in a fun workout, going for a walk, doing some yoga or taking a nap. All things that I loved prior to being a mama and now as a mama the fact that our schedules are so much tighter where do we fit it in? There is a huge privilege for mamas that have the support to be able to take the time for themselves but truth be told not everyone has that.

I saw a video of a mama explaining how she took her time back in a way of doing things she enjoyed while her kids were around or awake. I remember I would plan on getting things done while my son napped but truth be told by the time he would finally fall asleep I would be exhausted myself, or not in the mood or mindset to get anything done.

I started that practice in doing things for myself while my son was awake like doing a fun workout, or filming a youtube video or writing in my journal. It’s not always the easiest thing to do and some things can be more stressful with the kids around while you're trying to get some me time but I do believe that when you continue to show up for yourself that matters.
